Trek Tanzania's Legendary Peaks

6 Days 5 Nights Trekking

This 6-day Kilimanjaro trek follows the scenic Machame Route. After arriving at Kilimanjaro Airport and overnighting at Springlands Hotel, you begin your ascent through rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert. Highlights include tackling the Barranco Wall, summiting Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) via Stella Point, and descending to Mweka Camp. The final day returns you to Springlands Hotel for a hot shower and lunch, with options to extend into a safari or Zanzibar beach holiday.

Day 0

Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our driver will greet you with a sign and transfer you to Springlands Hotel. After a delicious meal, you will receive a pre-trekking briefing from your mountain coordinator and guide. Enjoy the hotel’s swimming pool, garden, bar, and restaurant. Overnight at Springlands Hotel (or similar) with lunch, dinner, and breakfast.

Day 01

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

After breakfast and a briefing, drive 45 minutes to Machame Park Gate. Complete registration, pick up your lunch pack, and begin trekking through lush rainforest. The 11 km trail takes about 6 hours to Machame Camp (3,000 m). In the evening, porters provide water and the cook prepares dinner. Overnight in a tent (temperatures may drop to freezing).

Day 02

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

After breakfast, trek approximately 5 km through the moorland zone, taking 4–5 hours to reach Shira Camp (3,840 m). The trail features a steep ascent with stunning ridge views. Upon arrival, porters set up tents and lunch is served. Relax and acclimatize before dinner and a briefing for the next day.

Day 03

Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

After breakfast, trek 11 km (7–8 hours) to Lava Tower (4,630 m) through rocky, semi-desert terrain. Enjoy lunch with panoramic views at Lava Tower, then descend about 2 hours to Barranco Camp (3,960 m), passing the Western Breach. Tents are set up, dinner served, and your guide briefs you for the following day

Day 04

Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

After an early breakfast, tackle the famous Barranco Wall, then descend into Karanga Valley for lunch at Karanga Camp. Continue trekking to Barafu Camp (4,640 m) – total distance 9 km, taking 8–9 hours. Porters set up camp, dinner is prepared, and your guide briefs you on the summit attempt. Rest early.

Day 05

 Summit Day: Barafu to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Wake around 11:30 PM, have tea and biscuits, then ascend via scree to Stella Point (5,685 m) – about 6 hours. After a brief rest and sunrise, continue 2 hours over snow to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Descend to Barafu (3 hours) for a short rest, then continue to Mweka Camp (3,090 m) for dinner and overnight. Total hiking time over 15 hours.

Day 06

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Springlands Hotel

After breakfast, descend 10 km (4–5 hours) to Mweka Gate, then drive back to Springlands Hotel. Enjoy a hot lunch and refreshing shower. Tips for the crew are encouraged. You may meet with a safari coordinator to extend your adventure with a wildlife safari.
